The front is packed, but Oese won the main race
(31.05.2011)Qualifying for this year’s opening round of the European championship was extremely competitive. This was not only proven by the times from the first part of qualifying, but also during the fight for super pole. How the drivers lined up on the grid was decided by hundredths of a second. The first six drivers were all within one second of each other! Unexpected, but very much reality.
Markus Oestreich proved his desire to win by setting the fastest qualifying time for the first race and starting from pole position. He went on to win the first race of the season in a confident start-finish style. A sensational victory to start the season!. „At the beginning I was a little lucky. When the trucks behind me were fighting with each other I managed to build a gap which would eventually decide the result. From this point it was easy to manage, I always believed that I would win.” Said the victorious Markus Oestreich in a confident manner.
„Oese“ was joined on the podium by the reigning champion Antonio Albacete from Spain and his fellow German Uwe Nittel. Adam Lacko crossed the finish line in fifth position with his fellow MKR driver Bösiger close behind him in sixth.
This afternoon’s handicap race saw Bosi and Adam both starting from the second row of the grid. Straight away the positions changed dramatically after some pushing during the first lap. Adam got to the front of the field and led for most of the race but all of the time he had Albacete on his back who eventually took advantage of a small mistake by Adam to take first position. „I knew that Antonio was very close behind me and I was not able to get away from him. In one corner late near the end of the race I was a little too late on the brakes and he took advantage of this. He has more experience than me so second place for me I will take as a success.“ said Adam Lacko.
Just as in the first race, third position didn’t change and Uwe Nittel made it to the podium again. Markus Oestreich finished eighth with Markus Bösiger tenth. „We are very happy for Oese´s victory and Adam´s second position at our first race meeting of the new season“ said our boss Mario Kress who collected the trophy for second place in the team championship after the first race.
Karel Neffe experienced his first visit to the podium after race 2, receiving the second place trophy on behalf of the newly formed MKR Team 14 Juniors.
